wanderer (2025)

Wanderer is Adedapo Adeniyi’s debut novella, published in September 2025. it is a story about a young man who has to wander his unconscious mind through memories, dreams and visions to find a mysterious girl called Ashley. Our main character finds himself in conversations with people from his life, the past, the present and the future as he goes deeper into his own mind, peeling back the layers of his existence and melancholy as the world around him abstracts and space, time and reality dissolve.

Using stream of consciousness logic in the writing of this book, Wanderer is a foundational text of Adedapo’s growing philosophy of Abstractism, a term that has defined his work for the last couple of years(an amalgamation of surrealism, solipsism, psychedelia, subjective reality and the physics of psychosis). Abstractism translates form to formlessness using these schools, and Wanderer explores them as an experimental and contextual tool alongside Africanfuturist elements to bring the book to life.

It was longlisted for the 2026 British Science Fiction Award for Best Shorter Fiction. It was presented at The Human Rights Club along with a lecture titled Abstractism, Experimental Literature and The Nollywood Avant Garde, as well as at New Culture Studios in Ibadan and G.A.S Lagos’ Art CRIT. It was also presented and sold as a part of the African Speculative Fiction Society’s Program at Ake Festival in 2025.
